materials for different purposes: a course syllabus for an Intro to Literature: Veteran Experience class with a poetry unit based on landays (women's resistance poetry of Afghanistan), a list of topics for Honors papers, a stand-aone assignment, alnd modules to use in a variety of courses  

This is a community college-level document analysis and writing assignment on World War I's impact on Middle East people. There are 3 groups of short documents, most primary source, on the experiences of Ottoman civilians, the experiences of Ottoman soldiers, and the relationship of the war to the spread of disease (not anything about the Western perspective of negotiations and treaties)! There are writing prompts for a long essay or 3 short ones - forgive the high school teacher terminology of DBQs and mini-Qs, but this is of use to advanced high school classes as well. 

These creative journaling activities, based on a book by an Egyptian artist, are adaptable for students of all ages.

This plan was inspired by participation in the University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies 2019 NEH Institute "Understanding Middle East Millennials Through Literature, Culture, and Media." The college-level course plans offers general guidance of topics and specific resources to use.
